Koima Coming to the App Store

Nap timer · Apple Watch

Rest now.
Wake as you stir.

Koima is a nap timer for Apple Watch. Pick ten, twenty, thirty or sixty minutes. In the final minutes it watches for wrist movement and wakes you as you start to surface — rather than always at one fixed moment.

Whether the wake reaches you depends on your notification permission, your Focus settings and the state of your watch. The support page sets out the limits plainly.

A soft violet arc of light curving through darkness, brightening to a warm amber point at its crest, with low mist drifting beneath it.

Why Koima

A nap timer that pays attention to the end of the nap.

Smart wake in the last few minutes

Near the end of the nap Koima watches wrist motion and wakes you when you begin to stir. If you are still deeply settled, it wakes you at the time you chose.

Heart rate and a nap summary

With your permission Koima reads heart rate from Apple Health during the nap, and afterwards shows your duration, average heart rate and roughly how long you took to settle.

Works on the watch alone

Start, adjust and stop a nap from your wrist. The watch app runs independently — your iPhone does not need to be nearby or awake for a normal nap.

Private by design

No account, no ads, no analytics SDKs, no tracking. Your health data stays on your device and in Apple Health. There are no servers, because we do not have any.

See how it works

01 · Smart wake

It watches the end of the nap, not the clock

Choose 10, 20, 30 or 60 minutes. Koima counts down on your wrist with a ring that shows the time left and the time you will wake. In the final minutes it looks for the movement that means you are surfacing, and wakes you then — a few minutes early is usually a kinder wake than a few minutes deeper.

If you stay still through that window, Koima wakes you at the time you picked. You can add or subtract five minutes mid-nap, or stop at any point.

02 · Apple Health

Heart rate in, one sleep sample out

If you allow it, Koima reads heart rate from Apple Health while you nap, so it can show your average and a small live reading on the countdown. When a nap finishes, Koima writes a single sleep sample to Apple Health so the rest shows up alongside your night's sleep.

That health data stays on your device and in Apple Health. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never mined, and never shared with anyone. Koima works without Health access too — you just lose the heart-rate readout and the Health record.

03 · Backup alarm

An optional alarm on your iPhone

If you usually nap with your iPhone nearby, you can turn on an iPhone backup alarm. Koima then schedules an alarm on your own paired iPhone for shortly after your wake time, and cancels it when you wake and dismiss the nap on the watch.

It is optional, off unless you choose it, and it needs your iPhone paired and in range. Only the alarm's identifier and its fire time travel to your phone — nothing leaves your devices.

Privacy first

No accounts. No ads. No tracking.

Koima has no sign-in, no analytics SDK and no third-party trackers. Your naps and settings live on your devices. There is nowhere for your data to go, because there is no server behind the app.

Health disclosure: Koima reads heart rate from Apple Health during a nap and writes one sleep sample to Apple Health when a nap completes, both only with your permission. That health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never used for data mining, and never shared with third parties.

Questions

How does the smart wake decide when to wake me?

For the last few minutes before your chosen time, Koima watches wrist motion. Sustained movement reads as you starting to surface, and it wakes you then. If you stay still, it wakes you at the time you picked.

Will it wake me if my watch is in Sleep Focus or on Silent?

Not always. Koima asks the system for time-sensitive delivery, which can reach you through some Focus modes, but a Focus that denies time-sensitive alerts — or a notification permission that is switched off — can suppress the alarm. Check Settings › Notifications › Koima on your watch, and read the support page before relying on it for anything that matters.

Do I need my iPhone nearby?

Not for a normal nap — the watch app runs on its own. The optional iPhone backup alarm does need your paired iPhone in range.

What does Koima do with my health data?

It reads heart rate from Apple Health during the nap and writes a sleep sample when the nap completes. Both need your permission, both stay on your device and in Apple Health, and neither is shared, sold or used for advertising.

Does it work without Apple Health access?

Yes. You lose the heart-rate readout and the sleep record; the timer and the smart wake work the same.

How much does it cost?

The free tier is the complete app, limited to three nap starts in any seven days. A start counts as soon as a nap begins, even if you stop it early. Koima Unlimited removes the limit for $1.99 a year — see pricing.
